Sarah of The SHU Box posts regularly about her own screen time habits, and I thought I'd write a similar post.
The most recent week is on the left; the week before is on the right. This was a weird week, because on the day after election day I received almost 200 iMessages notifications. My friends and my family had a lot to say about the election-- a lot to say. I am generally very consistent about my iBreviary usage (8 minutes every morning, 7 days a week), but this was not a 56-minute week. On Wednesday the 6th I pulled the physical breviary off the shelf. "Listen up, self," I said firmly to myself, "we are not picking up that phone and getting sucked into notifications until we are properly fortified." I am grateful that through some combination of grace and self-discipline I spent the first half-hour of that day in silence and blissful ignorance.
Those Kindle numbers suggest to me that the Stinky Boys Reading Project is less than a roaring success so far. Two weeks ago I spent more than 9 hours reading via Kindle, but lately I just keep falling asleep over The Claverings. It's going to take me a while to read four doorstop-sized books at this rate.
I am pleased to see that Facebook and Twitter disappeared entirely from my stats when October ended, and the plan is to keep it that way. I am mildly surprised that Duolingo ranks so high, but I suppose that if I aim for a 10-minute session in the morning and a 10- or 15-minute session in the evening, that's about where the totals will land.
Will Jamie stay awake for a whole chapter of The Claverings tonight? What's at the top of your screen time results, and is it consistent from one week to the next? Stay tuned for more riveting posts, and please drop a link in the comments if you write a screen time post of your own.
