Stella and I were going to make a speedy trip: out on Sunday, back on Monday. But Becky said, "It's such a long way to drive to stay for such a short time. What if you stay over on Monday night too?" So here we are. Becky rearranged her workday on short notice to free up some time, and we've had the nicest day. We drank coffee on the deck in the cool of the morning. We persuaded the slightly standoffish cat to be a little friendlier. We walked around a nearby lake in the afternoon, the two of us and our teenaged daughters, and stopped for ice cream afterward. We toasted marshmallows around the fire this evening and laughed uproariously.
Tomorrow we will head back to Gladlyville, and I will need to get my syllabi and course website finalized for the course that starts on Monday. It's been a lovely little slice of vacation time here, though. Becky and I exchange dozens of texts a day and talk on the phone regularly, but there's just no substitute for in-person time. I am soaking it up.
