That retreat was A Lot of work, you guys. They're always demanding, and they're more demanding if they're happening in a different town, and also I knew at the outset that I had said yes to an especially big job. We started with a small team, which meant more work for everyone, and right before the weekend we lost two people-- one because of a serious illness in the family, and the other because of a COVID exposure the day before the retreat started.
Oh! And! I wrote a talk for the weekend that I found weirdly, unexpectedly difficult: 3500 heartfelt words.
It was my seventh team for this retreat program and I don't think I've ever put in that much effort before.
I still have some catching up to do on the sleep front, but I am also thinking about what comes next now that my schedule is emptier. There are four things in particular that I'm thinking about.
Thing #1: I have been out of the daily Mass habit since before the pandemic and I miss it
Thing #2: I need a better plan for winter exercise than I currently have
Thing #3: I'd like to put in more time on food prep, so that the cooking is more balanced between Elwood and me, and so that I am packing more appealing lunches more often
Thing #4: I'd like to find out more about leading a winter small group, a thing my friend Veronica just suggested to me today.
Tonight, though, I am going to go to bed.
