I was talking to someone at church the other weekend about how two years ago everyone was talking about The New Normal and some people really seemed to believe it would be like this forever and ever until the end of time. And now look at us!

I really struggled when communion on the tongue was forbidden. For a while, my church gave out communion in the hand at the normal time, then after mass, once it had finished and people had left if they wanted to, the priest came out again to do a second distribution on the tongue. I thought that was a good solution - people who were worried didn't have to deal with the priest's fingers having been near mouths before handling their host, and people who wanted to receive on the tongue could. But then this was specifically forbidden where we lived. It was really hard! I didn't receive for a long time.

But now I am missing the chalice, and feeling that doom-laden feeling of "Is it ever coming back?! Will I die without receiving the precious blood again???" Sometimes I dream about the taste, and I wonder if it will be the same when I finally do taste it again or whether my memory will have drifted.
