My two college-aged kids headed out this morning. I don't know how long they'll be gone, given the COVID numbers in the county where they'll be living, and it's a little dumb that they're moving out in order to attend online classes (across my two full-time students, there will be one hour per week spent in in-person classes). But I guess we'll see.
Tonight for the first time in a while I will have more children sleeping elsewhere than children sleeping under my roof. I had been feeling pretty peaceful about their departure, but I think it will always make me sad when my children go away.
Two in college now?! Yikes. I hope it goes well for them and their college(s) take care of them.

Yes. A few weeks ago I sent a photo of our third son in front of his new apartment to our family text list and sadly noted that "It's always sad to drop a kid off at college." His younger brother noted dryly that perhaps when it's his third degree (this one a doctorate after teaching for seven years) perhaps it isn't quite as wrenching. Point taken.
