I finished Make the Bread, Buy the Butter on the way back to Gladlyville, and if you like books in which people get a little compulsive in the kitchen and tell you about the results with good humor and charm, this is a book that belongs on your shelf. I found it thorough but unpretentious, inviting but realistic. It made me want to go forth and can some jam.
I must have flagged a dozen pages with recipes I want to try. I do not expect that I will be curing my own prosciutto in the near future, or brewing my own bitters, but this book has reminded me that the world is wide and full of possibilities.
The author has a blog as well. I expect I'll spend some time prowling through her archives over the next few weeks.
