So I told you that Joe was admitted to boarding school but I never reported back: he's going. Today was the orientation. I was listening to the administrators talk about their educational philosophy and I wanted to stand up and cheer: they want to light these kids on fire. They want to nurture curiosity in the pursuit of a better world. They want to foster independence and resilience.
And they want to feed and house my 15yo.
A couple of times I stepped outside into the glorious June sunshine to take a deep breath and settle myself down. I had thought it might be easier to send a kid off into the world the second time I did it, but nope. I can't even write a blog post about sending a kid off into the world without getting a little teary.
