I just got an email: my paper was accepted!
It describes research from my first funded grant and it's my first crack at a qualitative study. I was really expecting it to be rejected on its first outing, because this isn't my primary research area and peer review is a slow and painful process. But hey-- it was not!
There are many things I appreciate about being at a university that emphasizes teaching, and one of them is that I don't face the same pressure to publish that I would at a more research-intensive institution. This is my sixth publication since I started my tenure-track job, my eighth altogether. I'm expecting another acceptance in the next few weeks here, which will mean that my track record follows the Fibonacci sequence: 1 pub in 2013, 1 in 2014, 2 in 2015, and 3 in 2016.
I can probably manage 5 in 2017 -- it's a good goal to shoot for, anyway. But 2020 is looking pretty tough.
