...chicken!
One egg hatched, the one that first cracked open while I was writing that last post. The one that started hatching last night is still working on it -- making headway, visibly breathing, chirping frequently but having a tough time with that shell. I am having to sit on my hands to keep from playing Jamie Gladly, Chicken Midwife. Alicia would probably say being a good midwife means sitting on your hands when that's best for your patient.
We are keeping the chicks until Friday, when they will go back to the extension office and from there to area poultry farmers to live long and prosper. (They are egg-laying chickens, not meaty chickens.)
The boys were kicking around name ideas at dinner and one suggestion was Aerosmith. "We could name them all for different bands!" said Alex. "And if any of them don't hatch, they can be the Grateful Dead."
Ack! He's so freaking cute! :D

Jamie Gladly, Chicken Midwife
You won't want to miss the adventures of this red-headed agricultural genius as she scours the farmyards searching for ways to bring new poultry into the world through fair means or fowl. Check out this tender and dramatic new series on the Pex Channel...
I'm thinking Reese Witherspoon with some hair dye...

you got that one right! sit on hands.....
one of my classmated did an internship with sister angela (a wonderful saintly midwife) in texas - she told me that sis angela would slap her hands if she started to reach toward a woman's perineum without a darn good reason......
