I have been getting pounded with spam comments in the past couple of days, so I've turned on comment moderation. I turned off captcha verification months ago (I hate captcha verification), and didn't notice an uptick in spam at all. And then, for some reason, the spammers suddenly went crazy.
They are mostly the "buy apple iPad cheep" and "pharma pharma viagra now" sorts of comments, interspersed with random snippets about somebody else's post on sports or art or whatever, but one made me laugh. It said, "This used to be a really good blog." I so agree that this blog has seen better days that I almost clicked the link.

Same exact problem with spammers at my Cajun Cottage. It's aggravating!

I think the best blogs have ups and downs and go through dry periods. I think those blogs are the best because they are the ones by real people living real lives. People who are so good at blogging that life doesn't occasionally get in the way are usually not the kind of bloggers I'm interested in reading. So there.
